My wife and I came here during our trip to Yellowstone National Park because we were looking for a nice sit-down meal experience, and I'd read reviews about the view here. First, the grounds and the inside of the restaurant are beautiful. The restaurants sits on a large piece of property, complete with cows, horses, and vintage automobiles. I recommend arriving just before sunset, so you can enjoy the view and get some good pictures. The entire structure is wood, and smacks of a craftsman construction that looks very new. The place is almost worth visiting just to look at it. The service was also good. The host and waitress gave good recommendations, and they were friendly. I ordered the stuffed chicken breast, and my wife had the filet, and both were very enjoyable. She ordered her filet medium, and it came out about medium rare, so keep this in mind if you are averse to rare meat. The scalloped potatoes that came with her filet were also noteworthy. They came in a stack with bacon in the sauce. My garlic mashed potatoes were good as well. The only disappointment we had from the experience were the garden salads that came with our entrees. While the homemade blue cheese dressing that came with our entrees was good, the salads themselves were not. First, the portion of garden salad (And I'm talking the most mundane garden salad {i.e. iceberg lettuce, carrots, sliced cucumber, etc.} was anemic. There was so little salad that it didn't even cover the bottom of the bread plate on which it was served. As soon as the server set it on the table, I wanted to laugh. Secondly, the vegetables themselves did not look fresh. The sliced cucumbers looked like they'd been sitting out drying. I guess they want you to upgrade your salad for $2 to the Wedge salad, which I saw come out, and it looked large, but it seems this tactic is lost on travelers who will likely visit only once, only to be offended by a sub par and stingy salad. Lastly, it seems prudent to steer clear of the bison dishes. I was considering ordering the bison before one of the employees told me in an aside that it has too much fat, advice that was corroborated by other online reviews.

We went for my birthday ' it was really good food. My husband told the servicer it was my birthday & she drop the ball as he put it. We had a great table by the fireplace . I had the filet which was cooked to perfection. My husband had the strip. The blue cheese dressing is great on the salad. Dinner was wonderful but why only a 4 is the service. She never check back & my husband had to go find her for the bill. He paid at the bar. She did a terrible job! Hats off to the Chef for a great meal.

We arrived in West Yellowstone on 6/18/2012 and wanted a special meal. Many Tripadvisor reviews were checked to determine where to dine. I'm new to Yelp, so that wasn't used at that time. Life is a journey with many decisions as we chose the Bar N Ranch just 5 miles outside of Town--it was listed as #9 in the top restaurants in the area. It's a new restaurant that makes you feel at home. Upon entry, there's eye candy everywhere! The owners had a Mountain built dead center in the dinning room witth different animals climbing on it. This was just plain big as I wondered what's in it-why was this built? The door was open, so I went in to find a wine storage room! For the meal, I started with a wedge salad with chunky blue cheese dressing-it was every enjoyable. I usually do not order Filet Mignon as most steak houses do not cook it correctly for MY taste. I like it really well done and all great cuts of meat can be cooked that way without destroying it---after all, who is paying for it? The steak arrived cooked to perfection with just the right seasoning. The whole meal was excellent. I highly recommend dining here IF you want a great meal. The full menu can be found online. The service was excellent in all areas. My only regret--I live 1,200 miles away from this #1 Restaurant!

Overpriced and mediocre, even for such a culinary lackluster location. Some specifics: tomatoes straight from the refrigerator; cold red wine; inattentive waitress.

Oh my heavens! Where do I begin? From start to finish, appetizer to dessert, the Bar N Ranch is top notch and worth every penny! The ambiance is that of a beautiful log hunting lodge, complete with amazing views of the mountains with Osprey flying over. The amazing scenery is doubled by the absolutely outstanding service! We were greeted cheerfully and seated at a majestic corner table that was plenty big for our party of 4. This may be the time to mention that we were a drop in and my crew comes with an abundance of food allergies. Typically a dinner out requires a lot of preparations, phone calls to the chef, and an epi- pen at the ready. In fact, when we were in Vegas, we were denied service due to our allergies. At the Bar N, the experience couldn't have been any different. We were welcomed and the allergies were taken in stride. At most places, we're lucky if the chef will serve us a dry piece of meat with a side salad. At the Bar N, the chef came out and was absolutely giddy with excitement to create something decedent for us! What a refreshing attitude!... And he didn't disappoint! The roast duck was cooked to melt in your mouth perfection and was served with a specialized glaze to meet my needs! The bison rib eye, and lobster ravioli were created with similar care and creativity. We even devoured a scrumptious dessert! For those with allergies and those without, I challenge you to drop in and indulge! You'll be glad you did!

We just arrived last night at the Bar n Ranch and are staying in the cabin (which is wonderful) and we came here for dinner and breakfast as well. Service has been wonderful, both times our server has been Zachary and he is amazing. Both polite, funny, and great service. The food is delicious, definitely recommend this place. The view is also a plus.

Gorgeous lodge style setting providing comfort while you dine on a chilly winter night. We're staying at Yellowstone under canvas this was the only option for dinner so decided to walk about half a mile one way. Greeted with smile and served well by the the server made this experience worthy the price and location. Ordered the vegetarian burger which was all right with little bit of burnt bun but the fries were good. The pear salad with blue cheese and pecans was very good - must try if you like vegetarian food. Now comes the peculiar part of this restaurant - the taxidermy mounts of deer, bison, condor, elk and so on. Even they decor the walls of the restaurant, an animal lover will have to stifle emotions else eat else where. The views from the restaurant are great so perhaps a great way to start your day while in west Yellowstone.

Best experience I've had in West Yellowstone AND the national park. Attentive, friendly service and good food. I wasn't made to feel like a member of the tourist herd and after spending the day being rained on and inching along the roads in endless convoys, I really needed that. I ordered a wedge of iceberg lettuce salad and bison meatloaf with potatoes and gravy because comfort food sounded exactly right, and it was. I know where I'm going for breakfast now, too.

During a long road trip that took us all the way to Minnesota. On the way back we stopped in west yellowstone and went horseback riding which was awesome. We were tired of campfire food and really needed a good meal. This restaurant did not disappoint it was a great find kind of in the middle of know where. The food and cocktails were awesome and the service was very good. We are heading that way again and will be eating there again can't wait. We had the Bison Ribeye as our entree and the chicken wings both were delicious.

My husband said, "I don't think they have a chef. I think they have a microwave." I read the Yelp reviews and thought we were safe to get a decent to good meal. I think my mashed potatoes were either previously frozen or boxed. The gravy over them with the short ribs was definitely not made in house. The ribs were flavorless. My husband's chili was lukewarm and also tasted out of a can. The lettuce was fresh with way too much dressing on our wedges. Those were good after scraping off the dressing. Staff was friendly. We liked the animals and view.

Just served us rotten salad! It wasn't wash and still had "grit" in it. They refused to apologize for it. If I could give them zero stars I would!

Bar N Ranch is a fabulous place to stay. We booked the day before and only have one night in the lodge. The cabins look fantastic as does the "glamping". The restaurant is also 5 star. Try the bread with melted blue cheese appetizer. Everything was beyond our expectations. Also they have a nice wine list. Wish we could stay longer - there are a number of nice hikes close by.

This was our nice dinner out during a road trip and it was really pleasant to have a relaxing dinner with good food and good service in a very cool, lodge-like atmosphere. My husband loved the buffalo rib eye and wanted to chew the bone! My stripsteak was perfectly cooked and I liked the sauce with garlic on top. Our son loved his buffalo burger. The wedge salad was good. The only thing that was not good was the tomato basil soup- it tasted like pizza sauce. Too tangy. Sides were alright- it was really all about the meats. We also had dessert and recommend the Creme brûlée. Dinner for four (including a 12 and 9 y o), a glass of wine & a beer, came to $154 before tip- but these may be standard prices for a nice dinner in a tourist area. Another nice touch- windows nearly take up the walls for beautiful mountain and prairie views and they had a pair of binoculars sitting in the window sill for closer looks! Our waitress was a total sweetheart.

Bad is an understatement. It is under new management and they've got some stuff to work out. They have the old menu with the really high prices but the quality was extremely poor. I had the $39 ribeye Which I ordered as medium was cooked well done but was strangely only lukewarm. I'm guessing it was baked or something and then reheated. Anyway, as a steak guy I was very disappointed. The other thing that bugged me was the staff dressed casually in t-shirts that weren't even tucked in. If it was a burger place or pizzeria this is what I'd expect not at a place that used to be as fine as this. In speaking with the waiter who said this was his 3rd year said that they had new management that really had no experience in operating restaurants and there'd been a steady turnover with staff. His candor and negativity about the place he was working at was amazing and it just added to the misery. Once upon a time this was the go to place in West Yellowstone for an elegant classy experience and superior food, not any more.

Bar N Ranch is a lucky find for any road-weary traveler fresh out of a day of hiking at Yellowstone. Located a 10 minute drive west of West Yellowstone, Bar and Ranch is associated with a nearby lodge and ranch, complete with horses, cattle, and spectacular views of the surrounding mountainside and forest. Any visitor will be first struck by the spectacular ambiance of the place, complete with a collection of taxidermied animals, fireplaces, wine cellar, and grand pine tables and chairs. The perimeter of the restaurant is lined with windows so you can take in the landscape. Ambiance: 5/5 A mild criticism of the service. While the hostess was friendly and the food prompt to arrive (5 minutes for appetizers and 15 more for steak) the waitress was a bit harried and seemed overworked. Service: 4/5 The appetizer on my visit, a roasted red pepper soup made with Gouda cheese was the highlight of the visit. It was paired with an asiago cheese bread and butter that further complemented it. Appetizers: 5/5 As a steakhouse, I finished my meal with a 10oz NY Strip with blue cheese topping. The steak was juicy and tender, but not particularly phenomenal. Good, but not the exceptional quality I'd hope for for a steakhouse. The $33 price tag for all of the above is reasonable, however, and is a welcome relief for the city-dwelling steak lover. Steak: 4/5 Value: 5/5 Overall, Bar N Ranch shines for its ambiance, appetizers, and otherwise quality fare for the tourist town that is West Yellowstone. Excellent for families, I recommend it. Overall: 4.5/5

Little surprise on the prairie! 9days into our 15 day road trip, we are pancaked, baconed, and carbed out. Say what you will about Cali, we deserve most of it, but we are spoiled with clean edgy culinary treats. Chef Ryan's menu is quirky, fun and delicious. The string beans served with the kids fresh made chicken strips were garden fresh! The adult dishes were excellent! Steak, salmon/quinoa fresh vegetables, and dessert; try the huckleberry bread pudding! When we inquired, chef Ryan came out and chatted with us, he's a hoot and more importantly he's given his life to Yellowstone. He loves the menu he's spent years curating. It's a great blend of giving tourists bison steaks without neglecting the art! A real stand out and the wait staff was so incredibly friendly. Thank you for a lovely evening.

The owners should have spent less on taxidermy and more on making sure they had the equipment, staff and ingredients to deliver a quality dining experience. I had a thin, overcooked, pan-fried NY strip served with a (broken) blue cheese butter sauce. It clearly had sat under the salamander way too long. Served on a scoop of dry, tasteless smashed potatoes and forgettable green beans. It's steak and potatoes folks. If you're want to be a ranch-style restaurant and serve $33 steak and potatoes, do it right! And really --- rethink/update the menu -- chicken Oscar; strawberry spinach salad, blackened salmon with melon salsa -- it's so '80s.

We came in on a Sunday night. The restaurant was hot, and we had to wait about ten minutes just to be seated (even though only half the restaurant was full and no one was ahead of us in line). The service was friendly, though, apologizing for the wait, and we got to sit at a table looking at mountains--never a bad thing. The food is pricey, but it's good. My tuna salad was refreshing, and the gin cocktail I had hit the spot. My wife was pleased with her falafel salad as well.

We ate here while staying next door at Yellowstone Under Canvas and were pleasantly surprised. The place is very nice, well decorated and cozy feeling. It was packed when we arrived, but there were two seats at the bar so we took them. They have an outstanding wine selection, all at very reasonable prices. The bartender was fantastic, very friendly and competent. In addition to waiting on the bar patrons she also acted as a waitress for several tables, which meant our service was a little slower than normal, but we didn't care-we're on vacation! The food was very good. We had the antelope sausage which was delicious and for entrees the lobster ravioli and rack of lamb-both good dishes. The highlight was the roasted red pepper and smoked Gouda soup. Had we known how exquisite the soup would be, we would have just ordered bowls and bowls of it. Overall a great experience.

This place is absolutely fantastic. My wife has pretty severe food allergies and the chef was excited to custom prepare her dinner. The staff was great an very friendly. It is worth a trip here just to see the wine room. Beautiful decode and the view is fantastic. The smell of the food alone make you want to come back. I'm sad we live fifteen hours from here because this would become a regular place.

What a beautiful place... but they don't know what they're doing. I read about, and choose to eat at this restaurant because of it's YELP reviews. West Yellowstone is a town of tourist burgers and pizza, and we wanted something a littler nicer. I chose Bar N Ranch with the intent to have a steak dinner. The menu reads wonderfully, and should satisfy any foodie. But whoever is managing this place puts more effort on the ambiance than the food. My steak was warm, thin and not tasty at all. While it was advertised as a 10 oz NY, I would think it closer to 8. It's appearance was not only very un-impressive upon its arrival, it tasted very common. I am giving the restaurant a 3 because the salads were great, my wife's trout was good, and my daughter's lamb was also good. The cheese cake was creamy and tangy like home-made... very good, we really liked it. Service was a little slow, our appetizer didn't come out until after our salads and the same time as our main course. I had to call for the busboy to fill our water glasses... more than once (a pet peeve of mine) The hostess and the waitstaff were very nice, and very friendly, but they walk by empty water glasses and empty plates. (unexperienced and not managed correctly) The owners or management seem to be more concerned with each dining utensil in the restaurant matching the decor instead of food quality, customer service and simple restaurant ABC's.

Very disappointed for a ranch that is supposed to specialize in meat. The strip steak that I ordered looked like they had forgotten to fire it and had been slathered in blue cheese to make up for the difference. The appetizers that we ordered were also so-so. They have great decore and pretty good service, but I was hoping for a lot better food.

I had duck and my husband had crab cakes both were delicious. The cocktails, the food, the service and the views really were wonderful!!

Ambiance is great, food is only pretty good. I should have known something was up when the only way to get the 10-oz New York Strip (my favorite) was blackened with blue cheese. Now, I happen to kind of like meat done that way, but most steak-lovers want options, and taking those options away and forcing a heavily spiced version makes it look like you're covering up a mediocre steak. As it was, it was better than mediocre, but small and not really worth the premium price. I will say that it was medium rare, just like I'd asked for, underneath the blackening, so their chef knows what he/she's doing. Salad was great (Sundried tomatoes! Delicious homemade blue cheese dressing!), cheesecake was great, service was great. Even getting to the place along the pitch black roads was an adventure. I always look for the best steak in any new town. I was only in town for one night, so I can't say for sure that this was the best steak in town, but given the preponderance of burger and pizza joints in the town center, I'm betting that it is. So, mission accomplished. But I still have to be fussy: guys, start with a better, bigger steak, give the diner options, and that fifth star is waiting for you.

What a pleasant surprise! My family and I were looking for something a little bit nicer after days of driving and eating on the run. I also found this restaurant on Yelp and was so glad I did. The ambiance is great and the hostess was very friendly. Our waitress was also very sweet. We ordered crab cakes to start-delicious! I ordered the filet (pretty tasty), my husband ordered the buffalo stir-fry (loved it) and my son ordered a grilled cheese. Everything was beautifully presented and delish. It is a few miles outside of West Yellowstone, but we are talking maybe an 8 minute drive. Completely worth it if you want to sit and actually enjoy a meal. I highly recommend it!

Short drive out of West Yellowstone and well worth it. The service, food and ambiance was perfect. 16 oz bison ribeye an excellent choice after a long day in the park.

Most of the restaurants in West Yellowstone are typical tourist fare, but we found the Bar-N Ranch Restaurant to be a notable exception. Six of us had dinner with the entrees ranging from Halibut to Trout to Buffalo Filet. Every meal was outstanding and the service by Brooke was exemplary! We plan to return in a few days.

Great food, nice views, friendly service. A place we will visit again in the future. The Mac-n-cheese starters was a big hit with the kids. Wine selection was very good. Only negative was waiter forgot to bring sugar for hot tea and took 10 minutes to find someone to bring sugar. Also they had no to-go boxes except very small containers, waiter apologized for not having boxes.

Almost didn't try this place because the first reviews I read on Yelp blasted the food though they praised the view, ambience and service. I tried local rest. on Trip saver and it came up with 4.5 stars with 70+ reviews so we decided to try it, we are on a road trip across the nation that started in Texas and circled up through NM,AZ,CA,OR, WA, Idaho, MT then on down through the Dakotas, NB, KA, OK. I gotta admit it was awesome, some call it "pricey" but I had the most expensive cut (a 16oz buffalo, bone in Rib eye) the wife had the new York strip, she had a cocktail and a glass of good wine, I had 2 Draft IPAs and we shared a dessert (huckleberry cheesecake) and the tab was $113.00, I don't call that "pricey" The views are awesome, the atmosphere as well, the staff are friendly and the food was excellent... steaks cooked to a perfect Med. rare and I can't leave out the delicious home made blue cheese dressing, garlic mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. I will mention that our delightful waitress seemed to have a short term memory problem as she was slow on my second beer and the dessert and she accidently tossed the buffalo bone and about a third of my wife's steak that we had requested be put in a doggie bag for our "Grand dog" but she apologized profusely and got us a bone for him anyway and chased us down in the parking lot to make sure we got it. I decided to give her a $25.00 tip after I found out she had a huge table that showed up the same time we did on the other side of the rest. If we ever make it back to Yellow stone we will definitely be back here.

West Yellowstone is full of touristy shops and average restaurants, if you are looking for a delicious dinner in a high end setting, this is the place for you! Entrees range from $20-$45 but they are so worth it! Recommend the bison steak, rainbow trout and the bacon mac and cheese. All entrees come with roasted potatoes, veggie mix and a soup or salad. Salads are fresh and come with homemade dressing( try blue cheese and also the huckleberry..yum). Our waitress, Allison, was so friendly and we had a lot of fun with her. The lodge itself is just gorgeous, they have a wine cellar with over 1,000 wines and the decor is amazing. Bathrooms are really nice too, check out the faucet. The views from the restaurant are outstanding. Only 6-7 miles outside of main street in W. Yellowstone. Luxurious accomodations but everyone was in sweatshirts and jeans or casual attire after a long day of hiking! This was so good we went here two times in one week!

The good bad and ugly... The good: Great decor and the soup and appetizer were fantastic. The bad: To say the service was slow is an understatement. While our waitress was doing her best the restaurant was understaffed. The food took a long time to come out and we had to ask for refills. Not something you would expect from a high end steak house. The ugly: we all ordered the special which was supposed to be a bison filet. When they finally arrived all of ours were over cooked, and mine was almost charcoal. In fact I questioned whether or not it was actually bison but it was hard to tell because it was so overdone. Plus it wasn't a filet but a cut of sirloin but that probably gets down to semantics of their advertising. I sent it back but I didn't have them redo it since it took over 45 minutes to get the first one. There didn't seem to be any concern from the management that their signature dish...steak...was inedible. Unless they change things this place is sunk.

The new restaurant is amazing! After a couple days staying in Yellowstone and eating campfire food my girlfriend and a couple friends decided we wanted to eat some good food. After a couple days of not showering and sleeping on the ground I wanted a good meal. After a recommendation from a friend, I decided to visit the Bar N Ranch outside of West Yellowstone. We were welcomed by a friendly hostess, and next a great server. Though wearing clothes that a farmer would wear to feed the sheep, we walked into the beautiful lodgelike restaurant. Everyone was perfectly welcoming in the restaurant. We decided to go all out and enjoy the menu; appetizers, meals, and desserts. The Executive Chef (Ryan) was awesome and very helpful in choosing the right dishes. The bruschetta was all made in house, bread, mozzarella, and sauces. The steak I ordered was incredibly tender and perfectly cut. My girlfriend's pecan crusted trout was well seasoned and beautifully cooked. And the desserts were a delight, a couple months later we are still talking about it. I am so glad we went, A must Eat for West Yellowstone.

OMG! This restaurant was amazing! I had the surf and turf special which came with 6 oz king crab and a 16 oz rib eye steak cooked perfectly. It was spectacular. My sis had the stuffed pork chop. She thought hers was great. The salads were fresh and had house made blue cheese dressing. The bread was made in house with a 100 year old sourdough starter. The desserts were sublime! We had creme brûlée and a lemon napoleon. They were creamy and luscious and pretty close to perfect. The setting was remote and private. I loved it. Check out the bathrooms!
